Eco-materials
Eco-materials, also known as eco-environmental materials, are special functional materials that take into account resource, environmental and ecological factors in their design, manufacture, processing, use and disposal. This concept emphasizes that human beings actively consider the impact of materials on the ecological environment when developing materials, in line with the basic requirements of the harmonious development of man and nature. Eco-materials science is an important research direction of materials science in the 21st century, a novel field of multidisciplinary intersection, which is of great significance for realizing the sustainable development of materials industry. Eco-materials do not depend on petroleum resources and can be derived from renewable resources such as starch, vegetable oils and vitamins, which are converted into polymers through biotechnology. Such materials can be degraded by microorganisms and incorporated into the cycle of nature, and are therefore harmless to nature and are known as eco-plastics.
